Overview of the Palouse Knowledge Corridor
Washington State University and the University of Idaho, in partnership with the Latah and Palouse Economic Development Councils make up the Palouse Knowledge Corridor (PKC). The PKC combines the resources of the two research land-grant institutions located eight miles apart to offer courses and conduct research. The two universities are the top employers in the region, together employing nearly 10,000 individuals.
The PKC is made up of more than 20 companies divided into five industry clusters including electronics, biotech, environmental services, advanced materials and information services. The vision of the PKC is to create a diverse, vibrant and sustainable economy that respects the social fabric of our communities and our natural environment. It is also a goal to build a nationally recognized place of research and technology transfer with strong universities that attract, recruit and retain high quality students. Its mission is to promote the assets and capital of the Palouse region by partnering with the universities, private sector, economic development agencies and government.
The partnership was developed as a way of promoting the economic growth in Moscow, Pullman and surrounding areas together, as opposed to independently, as a way to capitalize on opportunities, create alliances and recruit new industry to the region.
The PKC has established an advisory group made up of representatives from the two universities, economic development councils and business leaders. This group works in concert for growth planning and management, marketing, community outreach and constituent relations.
The Vision of the PKC: "Unify efforts to create economic opportunities on the Palouse."
The Mission of the PKC: "To match innovation with opportunity, promote the assets of the Palouse, and foster collaborative efforts with universities, private sector, economic development agencies, and governments."
